Title: Study of propagation effects on 40 GHz short haul radio systems using experimental based estimation of rain structure
Abstract: The authors describe an experimental data-base which contains propagation parameters at 30 GHz, the inversion technique used to assess parameters of rain structure and the estimated fade statistics at working frequencies. The data-base contains the channel characterization of a 5.5 km terrestrial radio link located in Rome, and contains about 300 events covering less than three years. The aim of the experiment was the determination of attenuation and depolarisation due to rain. The performances of a proposed SDH-compatible broadband local radio system, operating at 37-39.5 GHz, are evaluated using these data and a comparison with the results obtained using CCIR prediction method is performed. >
