Abstract: Abstract—An attempt has been made in this paper to present step by step approach to estimate hourly exterior horizontal and slope daylight availability. The estimation relies on solar radiation data. The India’s Mangalore climate in particular provides a good potential for daylight harvesting in buildings.
Optimal utilization of daylight in buildings contributes to significant amount of energy savings. Daylight illuminance, particularly on vertical surfaces, plays a vital role in determining and evaluating the daylight performance of a building. An analytic model based on Perez model which encompasses the weather conditions of Mangalore has been selected. The modeled quantities would help energy system modelers or building designers to determine the amount of daylight on exterior horizontal, vertical as well as other inclined surfaces respectively when climate data are available.
