Title: Intranet indexing using semantic document clustering
Abstract: This thesis presents a system that applies automatic indexing techniques to large, dynamic, networked information collections, and which has been applied to a corporate intranet. The structure of the intranet is sought and an attempt is made to explore the underlying semantics of the intranet’s constituent documents in order to provide an overview. An important objective is to facilitate easier navigation than is possible today. We propose a system that creates a hierarchical index and which allows for browsing at different granularity levels. The main focus is however on the indexing techniques, and most of the work is based on the theory of Information Retrieval. A prototype has been implemented and evaluated, and we conclude that the techniques applied are valuable and usable for the proposed domain.
