Abstract: This text aims to explain what topology, at present, has to say about a few of the many
moduli spaces that are currently under study in mathematics.
The most prominent one is the moduli spaceMg of all Riemann surfaces of genus g. Other
examples include the GromovWitten moduli space of pseudo-holomorphic curves in a symplectic
background, the moduli space of graphs andWaldhausens algebraic K-theory of spaces.
