Title: Bicyclic 5-6 Systems with One Bridgehead (Ring Junction) Nitrogen Atom: Five Extra Heteroatoms 3:2
Abstract: The chemical behavior of two types of six bridgehead nitrogen atom-containing fused ring systems is reviewed: either three heteroatoms are located in the five-membered ring and two heteroatoms in the six-membered ring (two such ring systems, both fused tetrazoles are discussed), or vice versa. These latter cases involve a triazolotetrazine, two azolodithiadiazines, and one thiadiazaphosphinine. Relatively little literature data are available for the physicochemical properties of these compounds: X-ray elucidations of two derivatives have been carried out. The chemical reactivity, some ring openings, alkylations, acylations as well as some transformations of the ring-sulfur and -phosphorus atoms are summarized. The cyclizations to these ring systems involve ring closures of either the five- or the six-membered ring; these are classified according to the six-membered ring components. Short references to biological activities are also given.
