Title: REPEAT DUI OFFENDERS: ANALYSIS OF RESEARCH NEEDS AND COUNTERMEASURE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES
Abstract: This paper briefly summarizes what is currently known about repeat driving under the influence (DUI) offenders and summarizes some relevant findings from a series of California studies. These studies address the following issues: historical changes in recidivism rates; long-term recidivism rates and survival curves; short-term recidivism rates as a function of blood alcohol level and prior number of moving violations; DUI recidivism correlates; and accident risk as a function of DUI offender characteristics and recidivism status. The paper then presents a research agenda.
