Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effects of rhubarb on the function of mitochondria of hepatic cell in posttrauma sepsis.Methods:One hundred and eight SD rats with 25% Ⅲdegree burns on back hit by endotox...Objective:To investigate the effects of rhubarb on the function of mitochondria of hepatic cell in posttrauma sepsis.Methods:One hundred and eight SD rats with 25% Ⅲdegree burns on back hit by endotoxin at a dose of 20 mg/kg 12 hours after the burn injury.Mitochondria was isolated from the hepatic cells.The level of ATP,cytochrome C,and energy charge in hepatic cells were applied to evaluate the function of mitochondria.Results:The level of ATP,cytochrome C,and energy charge in hepatic cells was decreased after burn injury,and deteriorated further after the second hit by endotoxin on a time manner.There were significant differences compared to the controls (all P 0 001).However,rhubarb could obviously increase the level of ATP,cytochrome C and energy charge in hepatic mitochondria,the differences were significant compared to the burn and septic group (all P 0 001).Conclusions:Burn injury and the postburn sepsis,hit by endotoxin,can damage the function of mitochondria in hepatic cells.Whereas,rhubarb obviously improved the mitochondrial respiration of hepatic cells in the postburn sepsis.Read More
