Title: Epistemological Dispositions of Social Psychology In The Study of Social Movements: Civil Rights Movement as A Clarifying Model
Abstract: This study aimed at raising the epistemological dispositions of social psychology in the study of social movements, with a focus on civil rights movement as a clarifying model. Then, it aims to show the dialectical and historical perspective of social psychology and it’s ability to understand and interpretate social conflicts, contradictions, and changes. This will push social psychology to the macro level of analysis.
The study showed that the historical structure of social movement consists of important elements with respect to social psychology, such as: deprivation, coercion, discrimination, prejudice, cognition, communication, leadership, ideology, organization, attitudes, and social policy; which execute the movement demands. These elements if organized in the historical structure of social movement may develop the creativity of individuals in changing their conditions. So, when social psychology studies social movements, it will be able to extend its epistemological boundaries, adopt new concepts about man, society and history, and deal with the Fluidity of social life rather than its stability.
