Title: The Re-emerging artist: Christopher Pyett and David Marsden
Abstract: There is a generation of artists who were getting close to the top of their game in the early 1980s, at that pivotal moment when art theory descended on the artworld and disrupted their anticipated career trajectory. A new wave of artists deconstructing almost everything that they could lay their hands on was eagerly invited to move in and absorb the space. This is not to criticise this dynamic period in art history that questioned dominant notions and realigned paradigms, inserting possibilities in previously impossible places. It was necessary - the world needed a shake-up and conversations needed to be had. Over the past three decades contemporary artists have provided a valuable service contributing to this important endeavour.
