Title: The Use of Alar on Vigorous ‘McIntosh’ Apple Trees1
Abstract: Abstract Over a 3 year period, Alar was applied to vigorous, young ‘McIntosh’ apple trees at 2 rates (1000 and 2000 ppm) and at 3 times during the growing season (14 days after bloom, mid-July, and early August). All treatments were effective in increasing fruit firmness and reducing pre-harvest fruit drop. Applications 14 days after bloom significantly reduced both terminal shoot growth and fruit size at harvest. Effects of these treatments were minimal the year following treatment.
