Title: Satellite related propagation experiments-Olympus and ITALSAT studies
Abstract: Experimental data on satellite paths are required to develop prediction methods in Europe for the 20 to 50 GHz bands for both civil and military satellite systems. The Olympus satellite provides a unique opportunity to study the slant path propagation characteristics for satellite systems across Europe, to produce engineering data of direct relevance to satellite systems planning for the 20/30 GHz satellite bands and will assist in the study of physical mechanisms such as attenuation and cross-polar coupling. A direct comparison will be possible with 12 GHz measurements which may be related to extensive data at this frequency obtained from earlier measurements with the OTS and SIRIO satellites. Reception of signals from the ITALSAT satellite (launch 1991) which has beacons at 20, 40 and 50 GHz is also anticipated. >
