Title: The Development and Testing of Improved Wheel Profiles for Queensland Railways
Abstract: The wear behavior of railway wheels is significantly dependant on the tread profile and the profile of the rail upon which it rolls. Queensland Railways have moved away from a cylindrical tread wheel in two stages in order to overcome a problem of rail failure due to high contact stresses and to achieve extended life of both wheel and rail. The newly developed profile has been service tested and the actual results are reported.
