Title: Contamination du peuplement de poissons d’un étang de la Réserve Naturelle Nationale de Camargue, le Vaccarès, par des polluants organiques persistants
Abstract: Un important programme de recherches écotoxicologiques a été entrepris en 1996 dans la réserve naturelle nationale de Camargue afin de déterminer l’importance de la contamination de ses réseaux trophiques aquatiques par les principaux polluants organiques persistants et de déterminer quelles en sont les conséquences pour le peuplements de poissons qui y vivent. Le présent article a pour objet de décrire les résultats obtenus relativement à la détermination de la charge tissulaire (foie, muscle et/ou bile) en polluants organiques persistants (POP) : pesticides organochlorés (OC) (lindane, dieldrine, hexachorobenzène et pp'-DDE), hydrocarbures aromatiques polycycliques (HAP) et polychlorobiphényls (PCB) chez des poissons collectés entre 1997 et 2000 au niveau de trois stations sises dans la zone riparienne de l’étang du Vaccarès. La finalité de ces recherches a été d’apprécier l’évolution saisonnière et les variations inter-sites de la contamination chez des anguilles européennes (Anguilla anguilla), des carassins (Carassius auratus), des poissons-chats — barbottes noires — (Ictalurus melas) et des sandres (Stizostedion luscioperca). La contamination en HAP et en OC est systématique et très fluctuante, quels que soient l’espèce, le lieu de prélèvement ou la saison. Ce fait est surprenant pour des échantillons biologiques provenant d’une aire protégée. En effet, les concentrations en ces polluants, plus particulièrement en OC se sont avérées anormalement fortes, excédant en règle générale la ppm rapportée au poids sec, voire la dizaine de ppm pour certains échantillons. Les super-prédateurs (anguilles et sandres) se sont montrés, en toute logique, les espèces les plus contaminées. Les concentrations les plus fortes en OC dans les tissus des anguilles sont atteintes par les PCB , en particulier chez les individus capturés à la fin du printemps. La charge en lindane, très élevée avant son interdiction (juillet 1998), diminue dès 1999 pour atteindre un taux proche de celui du pp’-DDE, lui-même assez significatif. Les concentrations hépatiques et musculaires en dieldrine et en hexa-chlorobenzène ont tendance à augmenter au cours de l’année 2000. Les variations inter-sites s’observent pour l’ensemble des pesticides organochlorés, mais elles sont rares pour les PCB et les HAP corroborant que l’apport des pesticides se fait de façon prédominante par les eaux d’irrigation des zones agricoles voisines, tandis que l’apport des HAP et PCB emprunte essentiellement la voie atmosphérique. Les profils d’imprégnation tissulaire des anguilles par les HAP évoluent au cours des 4 années expérimentales. L’imprégnation générale régresse dans la bile et le foie de 1997 à 2000. Entre 1996 et 1998 le naphtalène était prédominant mais dès 1999, sa concentration diminue nettement et les HAP les plus fréquemment détectés sont alors des molécules à 3 ou 4 cycles benzéniques (l’acénaphtylène, le phénanthrène, le fluoranthène) et les benzo-fluoranthènes. En revanche le benzo(a)pyrène demeure peu concentré.
