Abstract: Early development of white sea bream, Diplodus sargus, ♀ X common dentex, Dentex dentex, ♂ hybrids was compared to those of the parental species. Percent fertilization and percent hatching in the hybrid was not significantly different from those of parental species. Mean hatching time of the hybrid was intermediate between those of the parental species and was significantly different from both parental species. Growth of white sea bream and hybrid fry form days 6 to 30 was not significantly different. All common dentex fry died during this period. Results from this study suggest that this hybrid may be a suitable candidate for fish farming.
