Title: PAVEMENT PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE EFFECTIVENESS. THE UNITED STATES STRATEGIC HIGHWAY RESEARCH PROGRAM. SHARING THE BENEFITS. CONFERENCE ORGANIZED BY THE INSTITUTION OF CIVIL ENGINEERS IN COOPERATION WITH U.S. STRATEGIC HIGHWAY RESEARCH PROGRAM, 29TH-31ST OCTOBER 1990, TARA HOTEL, KENSINGTON, LONDON
Abstract: The Strategic Highway Research Program Study H-101 studies the impact of preventive maintenance on pavement performance. Six treatments were studied for flexible pavements: crack sealing; chip seals; slurry seals; and thin overlays. For rigid pavements they include crack and joint sealing; and undersealing. The study will determine the effects of these treatments on pavement performance. This information can be used to determine the cost effectiveness of preventive maintenance. Sites have been identified, the treatments will be applied, and initial and long term observations will be made.
