Title: Integrating Renewable Energy with Smart Grid-Energy Storage Technologies & Challenges
Abstract: The smart grid can help us reach the objective of clean environment by making use of renewable power sources such as wind and solar. Although renewable energy is an infinite energy source derived from the environment, its supply is intermittent and its availability is less predictable and its generation is outside human control as compared to conventional power plants. Smart grids can enable integration of electric power generated from distributed renewable energy sources. Integration of renewable energy into the smart grid with novel energy storage is the key to level these challenges and accomplish greater reliability and consistency in delivery. This paper discusses the potential application of this energy storage technology to enhance the integration of renewable energy and to advance greater levels of energy efficiency. It identifies the challenges and provides insights into current and potential methods for addressing these difficulties.
