Title: Delay sowing date and its effect on Iranian winter wheat cultivars yield and yield components
Abstract: Iranian winter wheat cultivars and their response t o delay sowing date were investigated as a field ex periment during 2009-2010. The experiment was conducted in A rak, Iran. The experiment design was split plot com pletely randomized with three replications. The main plots were four winter wheat cultivars namely B.C. Roshan , Alvand, Amirkabir and Shahriar and Sub plots were six sowin g date from very early to very late sowing time or Sep. 23 th , Oct. 9 th , Oct. 24 th , Nov. 10 th , Nov. 25 th and Dec. 24 th . The plot size was 1.6 ◊ 8.0 m, and the seed rate was 120 kg/ha. The results showed significant differences b etween cultivars the first. The maximum yield for l ate sowing date was obtain for Shahriar cultivar with 3.7 t/ha grai n yield. The maximum grain yield by 5.3 t/ha was ob tain at 23 th September sowing date by Shahriar cultivar. The res ults showed that the Roshan B.C (by 0.9 t/ha) and A lvand (by 1.1 t/ha) cultivars had lowest yield for delay in s owing time on 24 th December. Study of yield components showed there were the maximum records for sowing date on 2 3 th Sep. The maximum number harvest index was for Shah riar cultivar. However, accumulation of maximum GDD (223 6 GDD) were recorded for early sowing date (23 th September) and it decreased to 1398 GDD for late so wing. The 11 th December sowing date accounted for lowest GDD (1398) from sowing to maturity stage. Thus, lat er sowing indicated shorter grain and biomass yield as compared to relative earlier sowing dates.
