Title: How the shift in the rainfall-runoff relationship affects modelling accuracy?
Abstract: Multiyear dry periods can induce change in rainfall-runoff relationship on annual scale. It has also been recognised, that model performance declines if simulation period rainfall departs from calibration period rainfall. This study evaluates the performance of 6 commonly used hydrological models under dry climate conditions with respect to the changes in rainfall-runoff relationship. Our results suggest that the rainfall anomaly of the dry period per se does not control validation model performance. However, the change in the annual rainfall-runoff relationship is found to be the important factor related to the decline in NSE and the increase in bias of the models during the validation period.
