Title: DIRECT DETERMINATION OF THE HALF-LIVES OF NINE NUCLIDES
Abstract: The half lives of S/sup 35/, Ca/sup 45/, Ru/sup 103/, Ag/sup 110m/, In/ sup 114 m/, Sv /sup 124/, Pm/sup 147/, Hf/sup 181/, and Hg/sup 203/ were determined by direct measurement after extensive radiochemical purification. These new values are compared to previous determinations. After irradiation and purification the isotopes were mounted on aluminum planchets with collodionether. After ether evaporation a film of rubber hydrochloride was placed over the planchet and the assembly was dried under vacuum. The samples were counted in a modified methane-flow proportional counter with a 200-volt plateau at 4,600 v. The window was a Mylar film with approximately 2 pi geometry. Samples were counted periodically to a total of 2/sup 16/ counts per sample. (C.J.G.)
