Title: Pr opagation of low frequency acoustic waves in a shallow water ocean over a semi-infinite solid seabed
Abstract: Analytical solutions of the normal modes for acoustic wave propagation in shallow water homogeneous ocean overlying an interacting semi-infinite solid half space consisting of homogeneous, isotropic soil or rock are studied in this paper. The effects of the three parameters, namely, water depth, mechanical and acoustic properties of seabed and source frequency are studied numerically. The penetration depth of acoustic waves below seabed due to a source located in water column has been obtained as functions of these parameters by extensive numerical study of the frequency equation that governs the normal modes. For a chosen water depth and seabed properties, a cutoff frequency estimate has been obtained such that source frequencies above it will have almost zero depth of penetration.
