Title: Quo Vadis Economics? The End of the Epoch of Neoclassical Economic Paradigm?
Abstract: The recent world financial and economic crisis has definitely brought into question the validity of neoclassical economic paradigm. The continued validity and relevance of the whole economic theory for the world economy, including the neoclassical approach, is questioned in this paper. Transnational corporations (TNCs) have become the main subject of the world economy and have such a capacity to replace the nation-state. Technology owned by the TNCs simply does not allow for the reconstruction of the nation-state and national economic policy regardless if the policy contains neoprotectionism or Keynesian approach. Economics, according to the standard textbooks, is based on the principle of diminishing returns. In this context, the entire field of microeconomics and macroeconomics needs to be reconsidered from the viewpoint of increasing returns and an open world economy. The World has entered into economic globalization without an appropriate economic theory.
