Title: Female Athletes' sport commitments in Men's and Women's Sports
Abstract: The objectives of the present study are to compare the female athletes’ commitments in men’s and women’s sports. Therefore a sample of 289 athletes in different kinds of men, women and gender neutral sports cooperated in this research and answered to Bam’s gender role and Scanlan’s sport commitments questionnaires. For analyzing the data the independent T-test and variance and covariance were used. The findings show that: There is a meaningful difference in the sport commitments extent of the females taking part in men’s sports and those taking part in women’s ones. There is a meaningful difference in the sport commitments extent of the females with different sport history. There is a meaningful difference in the sport commitments extent of the female athletes regarding their felinity roles. There is a meaningful difference among the female athletes regarding their sport. It seems that the common gender cliches of the society concerning the appropriate sports for women affect the social support extent of female athletes.
