Title: Mastitis in the Vital 90™ Days…What's the Real Cost?
Abstract: Mastitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the mammary gland, and it remains one of the most costly diseases affecting dairy cattle worldwide. Mastitis is a complex disease most commonly caused by a wide range of bacteria. The economic consequence of these infections can be difficult to estimate due to differences in clinical presentation of mastitis, timing of disease onset, value and age of the cow affected, level and value of milk production loss, treatment approach taken, culling or mortality risk due to mastitis, and the likelihood of additional cases occurring in the same cow or quarter within the same lactation.
