Title: Dynamic Pile-Cap-Soil-Pile Interactions in Triangular Pile Groups
Abstract: The dynamic soil-pile interactions (SPI) in triangular pile groups are quite complex, especially with pile caps that are partially or fully embedded in the bearing soil. These foundations behave differently from the pile foundations with free-standing pile caps due to the pile cap-soil-pile interactions (CSPI). Only limited studies are available in this area, because of the need for analytical methods that are both rigorous and computationally feasible. The present paper presents the results of study on dynamic behavior of pile groups with triangular layout of piles, with or without embedment of the pile cap. A triangular pile group with a rigid pile cap is modeled using 3D finite elements for the near-field and 3D consistent boundary elements obtained from Consistent Infinitesimal Finite Element Cell Method (CIFECM) for the far-field. Using this FE model, the dynamics of the triangular pile foundations are studied and reported in the form of dynamic stiffness coefficients or impedances.
