Title: Study the Biodiversity of the Asteraceae Family in Lattakia Province / Syria
Abstract: Taxonomic investigation of the Asteraceae (Compositae) family which is growing throughout Lattakia Province was carried out due to the contribution to study the flora of Syria. A total of 91 species belonging to 54 genera of the Asteraceae family were collected and identified, the results showed the dominance of the genus Centaurea with 9 species, followed by the genus Crepis with 7 species, then genus Lactuca with 4 species, and Chrysanthemum, Inula, Picris with 3 species each. The study of the chorological spectrum revealed the dominance of the Mediterranean plants with 53 species and a percentage of 58.2%, followed by Mediterranean/Irano-Turanean plants with 20 species and a percentage of 22%. The study of the state of species and species richness resulted in finding 45 dominant species, 20 moderate distributed species, 20 rare species, and 6 very rare and can be considered as threatened species. In this study, 34 species were recorded for the first time in the Lattakia Province, in addition to two species, Aetheorhiza bulbosa (L.) Cass, and Bidens pilosa L. were recorded for the first time in the flora of Syria.
