Title: Appropriateness of Triple Therapy after COPD Exacerbation
Abstract: 1 retrospectively examined discharge medications for patients who had been admitted to hospital for acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Their primary objective was to determine the propor - tion of admissions for which the combination of long-acting s 2 agonist, tiotropium, and an inhaled corticosteroid was prescribed. This so-called triple therapy is recommended in the Canadian COPD guidelines for patients with moderate to severe COPD and a history of recurrent exacerbations (one or more exacerbations per year, on average, for 2 consecutive years). 2
