Abstract: September 11, 2001 will forever change the way the United States and certain of its key allies will view its borders and protect its citizens, economy and digital infrastructure, also known as cyber security. With the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and various legislative acts to prevent another terrorist attack on the nation’s soil, there becomes a delicate balance between protecting the freedoms Americans so enjoy and the potential for gross infringement as well as violations of individual liberties that are preserved under the Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution. Notwithstanding the death of Osama Bin Laden, Chief of the Al Qaeda network of terrorism, by Navy Seal Team 6, the Department of Homeland Security is here to stay and must innovate on protective strategies as well as anticipate the next move against the United States in order to preserve America’s future from the threat of terrorism.
