Title: Local Sensitivity of Mechanistic-Empirical Flexible Pavement Performance Predictions to Unbound Material Property Inputs
Abstract: Conventional flexible pavements designed for three traffic levels in each of five climate zones are evaluated for the sensitivity of predicted distresses on the mechanical and thermohydraulic input properties of the unbound layers. Material properties varied in the analyses include the resilient moduli and Poisson's ratios, the soil water characteristic curve parameters, and groundwater depth. Correlations of the unbound material inputs are considered. Local sensitivities are evaluated for each pavement distress for each pavement type. The base and subgrade resilient moduli and base thickness were found to be the most sensitive unbound material property inputs, followed by the base and subgrade Poisson's ratios, groundwater table depth, and subgrade plasticity and percent passing the No 200 sieve (via the influence of these last two on the soil water characteristic curve parameters).
