Title: Nonlinear propagation characteristics of transverse waves in anisotropic solids
Abstract: The nonlinear propagation characteristics of ultrasonic transverse waves in anisotropic crystals are investigated in this paper. The calculation reveals that the quadratic nonlinearity of transverse waves could exist in some wave propagation directions, depending on the anisotropy of the crystal. The second harmonic generation of transverse waves is originated from only the nonlinearity of the medium. Whereas both medium and motion nonlinearities contribute to the second harmonic generation of longitudinal wave. The energy walk-off effect, which usually does not occur in Nonlinear Acoustics due to dispersionless of acoustic wave, appears for transverse waves propagating along threefold axes of cubic and trigonal crystals.
