Abstract: The author discusses the controversies that erupted at the University of Minnesota over attempts to change the tenure code. He points out why the problems arose, what took place, the principle actors involved, and the resolution to what was arguably the worst crisis to rock the institution this century. He concludes by offering lessons that were learned about discussions over tenure.
