Title: Predictive emissions monitoring systems: a low-cost alternative for emissions monitoring [in cement industry]
Abstract: Predictive emissions monitoring systems (PEMS) can be used as an alternative to continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) to satisfy the requirements of some of the US Federal Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 as well as the new regulations under the enhanced monitoring rule. PEMS offer the advantages of lower cost, lower maintenance, and higher reliability than more traditional hardware CEMS. This paper discusses the application of a cement company's process insights for PEMS demonstration projects on two different cement kilns for predicting SO/sub 2/ and NO/sub x/ emissions.
