Title: The implementation of the communication framework of SIP and MGCP in VoIP applications
Abstract: Recently, because of the popularity of the Internet, the increment of network bandwidth, and the improvement of voice compression technologies, VoIP has shown an exploding growth. We can transmit not only text-based applications but also voice/video-based real-time multimedia applications over the Internet by using VoIP technology. To use VoIP, we need some protocols such as H.323, SIP (session initiation protocol) and MGCP (media gateway control protocol) to support it. These protocols play important roles in VoIP communications, but the interoperability between these protocols becomes an emerging problem. Communication between these different VoIP protocols is a tough task. We propose a solution for protocol conversion between MGCP and SIP. We had already implemented the protocol conversion platform in our lab, and found that it is feasible in real-world applications.
