Title: Behavior of nitrogen compounds during hydrotreatment of Khafji atmospheric residuum
Abstract: With increasing demands on fossil fuels as a source of energy, attention is focused on upgrading heavy hydrocarbon resources such as tar sand bitumens, shale oils, and coal-derived liquids. These heavy hydrocarbons contain large amounts of sulfur, nitrogen, and metal compounds, which should be reduced for environmental reasons. In view of the environmental concerns, some countermeasures to eliminate NO/sub x/ emission from oil-fired furnaces is described. 16 refs.
