Abstract: Statistical methods, currently employed for examining body weights collected in toxicologic studies, were reviewed and illustrated. The use of nonparametric analogs of conventional parametric statistical techniques was described. Nonparametric techniques have not been widely employed for evaluating weight data. The results obtained by parametric techniques were compared with those obtained by using their nonparametric analogs. It was concluded that nonparametric techniques are of value in toxicologic investigations if a rapid, preliminary survey of the effects of treatment on body weight is desired.
