Title: OPENSEES Soil-Pile Interaction Study under Lateral Spread Loading
Abstract: This paper presents numerical solutions for a single pile embedded in a three-layered soil system involving slippage ground displacement occurring in a thin liquefied soil layer sandwiched between two stiffer soil masses. A series of parametric studies were performed involving variation of pile diameters, pile bending stiffnesses, liquefied soil thicknesses and soil moduli. Results from the parametric study are then used to develop simplified equations which can be used for predicting the location and the amplitude of maximum pile moment and pile shear. Cross comparisons are also made to conventional design approaches. The comparisons show that many existing methods over exaggerate the amplitude of pile moment for the kinematic loading soil-pile interaction problem.
