Title: Accuracy of temperature measurements in furnaces
Abstract: Measurements of temperature by bare wire thermocouple and suction pyrometer have been performed in a cylindrical water cooled furnace axially fired with liquid fuel. Data have been obtained for the effect of the construction and suction velocity range on the accuracy of suction pyrometer readings. Analysis of the errors in the bare wire readings has been made for different operating conditions and different locations of the hot junction in the furnace. Based on the analysis of the different modes of heat transfer affecting the accuracy of temperature reading, a general correction formula has been obtained to relate the bare wire readings to those of the suction pyrometer.
