Title: Transient Solid-Propellant Burning Rate Model: Comparisons to Experimental Data
Abstract: An important aspect in the study of the internal ballistics of solid-propellant rocket motors is the ability to understand the behavior of a given motor under transient conditions. A general numerical model based on the Zeldovich-Novozhilov solid-phase energy conservation result for transient solid-propellant burning is presented in this study. The model is general in the sense that the model may be incorporated for various propellant burning-rate mechanisms (varying static pressure is the principal mechanism of interest in this study). The inclusion of a surface heat release term in the predictive model allows for a more effective comparison to available experimental propellant combustion response data.
