Title: Theory, Research, and Application in Educational Anthropology
Abstract: The historical development of educational anthropology is examined within the context of the growth of professionalism and specialization in the discipline as a whole. It is argued that the 1954 Stanford Conference and the formal organization of the Council on Anthropology and Education in 1970 culminated previous developments in the field of educational anthropology and inaugurated new ones. However, these events also reflected changes in economic support for anthropology, modifications in anthropologists' relationships to applied problems, and redefinitions of the meaning of professionalism in the discipline.
