Title: Electrification for development in South Africa
Abstract: Electrification in South Africa during the 1980s addressed the needs of commercial farmers, providing network connections to support agriculture and agricultural industry. Network extension was effectively subsidised by other electricity customers. As a result, most economic units were electrified by 1990. Electrification will continue for at least another eight years, though the annual connection targets have been reduced.
