Title: The Future Challenges of European Union Environmental Policy
Abstract: The importance of the environment in the European Union (EU) has been growing rapidly. The EU, as one of the largest communities in the world, with almost 500 million citizens and 27 member states, is strongly committed to the quality of health and life of its citizens. In that direction the EU has been strengthening the activities in the environmental area. Today, contemporary EU is not only committed to the protection of the environment, but also along with the protection, tries to improve the quality of environment and to eliminate the negative consequences of various sources of pollution. The contemporary EU is a coherent community with the numerous of common political and economic activities. The EU has taken a number of activities to the better protection of the environment. The area of the environment is one of the areas where the competences are shared between the EU and the member states. The goal of this paper is to analyze the existing environmental policy and the environmental activities, and to highlight the future perspectives and challenges of the EU environmental policy.
