Title: The post-crisis sequencing of economic integration in Asia
Abstract: Résumé Au cours de ces cinq dernières années, les initiatives en matière de coopération bilatérale et régionale ont pris une importance croissante en Asie. Ces accords couvrent tant le secteur réel que financier ; plutôt que d’emprunter la voie classique, “le commerce d’abord, la monnaie ensuite”, ces décisions politiques impliquent la mise en vigueur simultanée d’accords commerciaux et monétaires/financiers. Compte tenu de cette logique, existe-t-il une possibilité pour une union monétaire en Asie de l’Est ? Y a-t-il place pour des zones de libre-échange (ZLE) élargies ? Cet article conclut que, selon la logique actuelle, ce sont les accords commerciaux qui, en définitive, complèteront l’intégration monétaire et financière. Alors que pèse sur l’union monétaire une contrainte politique, l’article soutient que les ZLE peuvent aider à desserrer cette contrainte. Classification JEL : F1 ; O24.
