Abstract: A new Specific Pavement Study (SPS) for monitoring the performance of warm mix technology has been initiated by the Federal Highway Administration under the Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) Program. Entitled, Warm Mix Asphalt Overlay of Asphalt Pavement Study, the SPS-10 experiment aims to compare the performances of warm mix asphalt (WMA) and hot mix asphalt (HMA), both in the long and short term. The experiment is designed to explore how pavement performance is affected by a primary set of factors, including the type of WMA technology used, the traffic loading, and the climatic elements of moisture and temperature. Details of the projects involved in this experiment are presented in this article.
