Abstract: Abstract Factor analysis and structural equation modelling of clustered data are discussed. The application of these methods, with emphasis on the interpretation of results, is illustrated in analyses of students' scores on a set of science tests. These data have a two‐level hierarchical structure with students nested within schools.
