Abstract: El Alcalde de Zalamea narra el drama que se vivio en esa localidad pacense cuando en 1580 llega el ejercito de Felipe II al mando del capitan Alvaro de Ataide para raptar y violar a la hija de su regidor, Pedro Crespo un rico labrador viudo y con dos hijos que tiene que acoger en su casa a un capitan de las tropas reales que esta de paso camino de Portugal. Al conocido grito de Al Rey la hacienda y la vida se le ha de dar, pero el honor es patrimonio del alma y el alma solo es de Dios, Pedro Crespo decide hacer justicia mientras el pueblo se alza en armas contra los soldados. El Alcalde de Zalamea es una obra del pueblo, con la que Calderon de la Barca hace un pronunciamiento en defensa de esa gente que lucha por la justicia y la libertad, denunciando los abusos de ese ejercito contra una poblacion indefensa. Poderosos contra debiles, algo plena de actualidad. Un texto que es una reflexion sobre la vida, sobre el hombre y sus valores.
