Lipodisq particles containing dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) are characterized by increased lipid ordering compared to a DMPC dispersion. The styrene and maleic acid groups of the polymer interact with the DMPC lipid chains in bilayers, as well as lipid headgroups in the Lipodisq periphery (see picture).
