Abstract: Parents have a substantial effect on student achievement. Thus, tests of parents' academic achievement need to be developed. These tests pose several issues of test conditions. We assessed parents' achievement, background and supportive factors under two different test conditions. 130 parents randomly assigned to standardized or unstandardized test conditions completed an achievement test and questionnaire in biology. The test condition has no consequences on the achievement in biology. The parents' test score only relates to parents' self-concept and aspects of supportive behavior. The results suggest that parents can be tested validly under standardized and unstandardized test conditions.
