Title: Garnet composition as an indicator of Cu mineralization: evidence from skarn deposits of NW Iran
Abstract: Garnet is a common mineral in most skarn deposits. The study of garnet composition in three skarn deposits of NW Iran shows that andradite-rich garnet contains more Cu (60–680 ppm in Cu-dominated and 16–23 ppm in Cu-undominated skarns) than grossular-rich garnet (17–59 ppm in Cu-dominated and 10 ppm in Cu-undominated skarns). Also it is shown that garnets from Cu-dominated skarns contain much more Cu than those from Cu-undominated skarn deposits. This shows that garnet can be used as a guide in prospecting Cu skarn deposits.
