This chain of Cyclone Detection Radar (CDR) systems is now being replaced by Pulse Doppler Radar systems known as Doppler weather radar (DWR) systems. As part of this program IMD entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the design, development and commissioning of an operational DWR system. The overall system level and detailed subsystem level specifications for this radar were arrived at by IMD and ISRO after detailed deliberations with experts in the fields of radar meteorology and radar system design. This paper describes the salient features of the Indian Doppler Weather Radar.Read More
