Title: Influence of the antrum on the acid response to distension of the body of the stomach in dogs
Abstract: In dogs with innervated antral pouches, distension of the body of the stomach caused an increase in acid output. This response was inhibited by acidification of the antral pouch, or vagal denervation of the antral pouch. In other dogs with denervated fundic pouches, distension of the body of the stomach failed to induce a significant response from the pouch, but was effective in stimulating the main stomach. These experiments indicate that the gastric secretory response to distension of the body of the stomach is enhanced by an antral mechanism.
