Title: The ethics of research in developing countries: assessing voluntariness
Abstract: Over the past few years, there has been significant discussion about the ethics of clinical trials in developing countries. Exploitation, coercion, undue inducement, poor understanding, and many other issues have been raised. One major question is the extent to which research participants in developing countries can volunteer their informed consent. To explore this problem, researchers have interviewed research participants in both developed and developing countries about their decision to join clinical trials. 1 Pace C Grady C Emanuel EJ What we don't know about informed consent.
